CartNest is a browser extension and website that let you save items from online stores into a shared “nest” you can review with the people you choose. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We keep it short because CartNest collects little — and everything beyond running the service is opt-in.

What CartNest collects

Items you choose to save. When you tap “Nest it” (or capture your cart), CartNest reads and stores the product details from that page: product name, price, sale/“was” price, image URL, product URL, and basic variant info (size/color) when present. We only capture this for the item(s) you explicitly choose to save.

Your nest membership. A nest is identified by a random token shown to you as a friendly code (for example, cozy-otter-417). When you create or join a nest, that token is stored in your browser so the extension can sync. Anyone with the code can see the nest’s items — treat the code like a password.

Your reactions, comments, and decisions. Notes, emoji reactions, and “yes/maybe/no” decisions you add to items in a nest are stored so others in the nest can see them.

Local settings. Preferences such as your “capturing as” name and the auto-nest toggle are stored locally in your browser.

Your account (website). If you create a CartNest account on the website, we store your email, a display name, and your consent choices (below). You can sign up with an email and password or with Google; authentication is handled by our backend provider. An account is optional — the extension’s core features work without one.

Your consent choices

At sign-up and anytime in your dashboard under Your data & privacy, you control how CartNest uses your shopping signals. Each setting is independent:

Note: data captured by the browser extension is governed by the Chrome Web Store’s Limited Use policy and is never used for third-party advertising, regardless of the toggle above. The ad-personalization option applies only to data you provide through the website.

Anonymous read diagnostics. When (and only when) you save an item, CartNest sends an anonymous, aggregate signal about how well it read that store — the store’s domain, which reading method succeeded, and whether fields like price or image were found. This contains no page content, no full URLs, and nothing personal; we use it to improve store coverage. It is never sent while you simply browse — only when you choose to nest an item.

What CartNest does NOT collect

How we use what we collect

Solely to provide the product: to show your saved items, sync them to the people in your nest, dedupe duplicates, surface price drops and coupons for stores in your nest, and remember your settings. We do not use your data for any unrelated purpose.

Where data is stored

Saved nests sync to our backend hosted on Supabase. Data is reachable only through the nest’s secret token via locked-down server functions; database tables are not publicly readable. Local-only data (settings, and any locally-kept items) stays in your browser’s storage.

Sharing

Items, reactions, and comments in a nest are visible to anyone who has that nest’s code, because that is the point of a shared nest. We do not otherwise share your data with third parties, except service providers (such as our hosting provider) strictly to operate the service, or where required by law.

Your choices and control

Children

CartNest accounts are for adults — you must be 18 or older to create one. CartNest is not directed to children, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13, and we never use minors’ data for advertising.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll change the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected in the extension listing.
